BARRE


4) Retirés



Stand in 1st position facing the barre.

Introduction – Hold the position
Place the hands on the barre
Slide the right foot in to cou-de-pied with the right ball of the foot on the floor (the heel placed slightly in front of the left ankle)
Pull the right foot up to point the toe at the left ankle
Lift the right leg to retiré position
Lower down to the ankle
Return the right foot along the same track to 1st position
Repeat all on the other side 



Notes:

Emphasize the correct track of the working foot in all retiré heights whilst maintaining correct hip placement. Practice painting along the floor and up the side of the supporting leg with the working foot. A smooth movement to retiré is encouraged.


5A) Preparation for Jeté 



Stand in 1st position facing the barre.

Place the hands on the barre
Tendu right foot to 2nd
Place right foot in jeté derrière position, left leg en fondu
Tendu right foot to 2nd straightening supporting leg
Close in 1st position
Repeat exercise 3 more times on alternative legs



5B) Preparation for Jeté 



Stand in 1st position facing the barre.

Demi plié
Lift the right foot into jeté derriére position, remaining en fondu
Lower the right foot to demi plié
Straighten knees
Repeat 3 more times with alternative legs



Notes:

Both jeté exercises should be practiced devant as a separate exercise. Baby toe touches the ankle in front or may be slightly off the ankle. Heel is on the base of the calf in the back.  Focus on the correct placement of the foot in jeté positions.


6) Port de Bras 



Stand sideways to the barre in 1st position.

Introduction – Hold the position
Place the hands on the barre
Lift right arm to 5th en avant, lower to 5th en bas
Lift the right arm to demi 2nd, lower to 5th en bas
Repeat the above
Execute 1st port de bras with the right arm with the use of the head
Rise, arm remains in 5th en bas with head erect
Patter turn in 1st towards the barre to face the other side finishing with the left arm en avant
(meeting both arms in 5th en avant as the body passes the barre, the place the right hand on the barre and open the left arm to 2nd position)
Lower heels in 1st position, lower the left arm en bas
Repeat all on the other side



Notes:

Lift to the correct height in 5th en avant and close through demi-seconde.  Continue the use of eye focus from previous levels with the correct inclination of the head.


7) Polkas



Move from the barre to center using the same natural polka learned in Standard 1, now showing a natural head. Finish in a simple presentation pose.
