BARRE
All exercises at the barre commence and finish with the arms 5th en bas.
1) Preparatory Warm Up
Commence with feet in 1st position facing the barre.
Notes:
Hip placement and alignment must be maintained throughout as must the pull up off
of the supporting side.
2) Pliés
Face the front, feet in 1st.
Notes:
The head should have a natural flow of movement.
3A) Battements Tendus
Face the barre, feet in 1st position.
3B) Battements Tendus to 2nd Position
Face the front, 5th position, right foot front
Notes:
All tendus are articulated. You are encouraged to close through 1st position to the 5th positions.
4) Ronds de Jambe a Terre
Face the front, feet in 1st position
Notes:
Make sure you feel the turn out of the working leg in all positions.
BARRE
5A) Preparation for Développé
Face the barre, feet in 1st position
Notes:
Relate the track of retiré as in Grade 1. The heel is brought forward as the working foot slides up the supporting leg.
5B) Preparation for Arabesque
Face the barre, feet in 1st position
Notes:
Establish placement before lifting en l’air. Emphasis is on placement – not height of leg.
6) Preparation for Grands Battements
Face the barre, feet in 1st position
Notes:
This exercise is to show the correct use of the feet for future Grands Battements – not for height of leg.
7A) Relevés
Face the barre, 5th position, right foot front.
Notes:
Pay attention: you must not lean on the barre during this exercise.
7B) Echappé Relevés
Face the barre, 5th position, right foot front
8) Stretching Exercise
Face the barre, feet in 1st position.
Notes:
This is stretching exercise incorporates the positions of the head learned in the theory section.
9) Polonaise on Demi Pointe
Moving from the barre to the center following the front student around the room. The plié is on both legs in the polonaise. The brush on count 1 or count 3.
Intro should be counted as & 1 & 2 & 3 &
Notes:
Finish with a run across the center to place and finish in a simple presentation pose.
EXERCICES AU MILIEU
Port de Bras
Face corner, 5th croisé, arms in 5th en bas.
Notes:
Begin with your head inclined upstage and then finish downstage. Eyes to hands en avant.
1) Battements Tendus in the Positions of the Body
Face the front, 5th position, right foot front.
Notes:
The head remains erect throughout. The arms open slowly to 2nd as in 1st Port de Bras.
2) Temps Lié
Face the front, 5th position, right foot front.
Notes:
Arms may be held in several different ways:
- open 5th en avant all through
- open 5th en avant on dégagé, risen and lowered to 5th en bas on demi plié or
- placed on shoulders on intro and held during the temps lié with free use during runs and final pose
ADAGE
1) Arabesques
Face corner 1, 5th effacé, right foot front.
